Well here's some good news in a bad economy

Guess who is doing well despite difficult economic conditions? Orbit Baby, that's who. Year-to-date sales in 2009 are up 47% over 2008 levels. Which is pretty amazing since Orbit saw 143% growth in 2008 and 158% in 2007. I guess all the celebrity endorsements have helped out a lot.

Singapore trip for kids

Ok Ok! memang sekarang bukan waktu yang tepat untuk jalan jalan ke luar negeri dengan anak kecil. Apalagi ke negara yang kasus Swine flunya lumayan tinggi :)
Hanya saja kita sudah keburu pesan tiket dari jauh hari dan anak anak pun sudah antusias ingin mengunjungi negara tetangganya itu.
Anyway, ini ada sedikit ulasan tempat tempat seru di Singapura yang kami kunjungi pada liburan kami di awal Juni lalu.

1. Singapore Flyer
The giant ferris wheel...!Kalau bisa pesan tiket anda lewat online di www.singaporeflyer.com karena akan dapat diskon hingga 20%. Tiket untuk orang dewasa kira kira $30 dan untuk anak kecil $20.
Senang juga sih, dan anak anak juga cukup excited untuk bisa melihat kota singapura dari jarak yang amat tinggi, di dalam tempat yang dingin dan nyaman.

2. Singapore Science Center & Snow City
Ini adalah salah satu highlight dalam trip kami.Di dalam Science Center ini terdapat ratusan display tentang fakta fakta sains yang menarik. Mungkin untuk anak kecil dibawah 5th tidak akan terlalu tertarik, tapi untuk anak di atas 5th, mereka bisa mencoba sendiri bereksperimen dengan display display yang ada di sana.

Favorit anak saya adalah the Human Body section, mereka senang melihat replika lidah yang besarr, dan bisa masuk ke replika lubang hidung untuk melihat bagian dalamnya (yuckk!)

Waktu sudah mulai bosan, kami pindah ke Snow City yang terdapat tepat di sebelah gedung Science Center. Sebenarnya sih bagi saya Snow City ini hanya membuang uang saja, karena ruangan bersaljunya ternyata tidak terlalu besar, mungkin hanya sebesar dua lapangan futsal saja. Tapi anak anak sendiri seru, karena bisa memakai pakaian dan sepatu khusus untuk tahan dingin, dan bisa meluncur (sledding) di turunan salju curam dengan memakai ban.

Setelah dari Snow City kami kembali lagi ke Science Center untuk main air!!
Di sini mereka bisa berpuas puas main dengan berbagai atraksi yang menggunakan air. Mereka juga bisa mencoba beberapa fenomena alam seperti melihat pusaran air yang dapat menyedot bola bola plastik ke dalamnya dan lain lain.
Lapangannya cukup luas, dan para orang tua bisa dengan tenang duduk sambil menunggu anak anak selesai bermain.
Tips untuk ke Science Center: Bawa handuk dan baju ganti, dan sedia makanan! Agak menyebalkan karena di sana terbatas sekali restorannya. Dan kalau sudah jam makan jangan harap bisa dapat tempat duduk langsung.

3. Sentosa Island Luge
Ini juga salah satu aktifitas favorit anak saya.
Luge itu semacam kendaraan seperti gokart, yang digunakan untuk meluncuri trek berliku liku ke bawah. Anak anak di bawah 10 tahun dapat duduk didepan orang tuanya saat menuruni trek didalam Lugenya masing masing.Luge ini dapat berjalan sangat cepat dan semuanya dikendalikan dari kemudi tangan.
Setelah sampai dibawah, kami dapat kembali ke atas lagi dengan menggunakan Sky Train, bagi saya ini lebih menakutkan dari mengemudikan Lugenya sendiri !!Saran saya, lebih baik membeli tiket untuk dua kali naik sekaligus karena sudah pasti sekali naik anak anak akan minta lagi.

And another one's gone

Best & Co. has closed. The Greenwich, CT store has shut down and filed for bankruptcy after 12 years of being in business. Best & Co. was founded by Susie Hilfiger, ex-wife of Tommy, after she decided to revive the Best & Co. brand, which sold clothes in the eastern United States from 1879 to 1971.

Besides the store in Greenwich, Best & Co. also had a boutique in NYC's Bergdorf Goodman. That too is now closed, as is their website. I have no idea what will happen to all the merchandise, but it doesn't look like it will be one sale online. The stores are now closed completely as well.
